The temperature inside the Silverdome may have been chilly, but it was the Hillgrove High School Marching Band that turned up the heat and brought a taste of Cobb County marching bands to Pontiac, Michigan Saturday night.

Hillgrove joined a total of 18 bands in competition during the preliminary round. Once the preliminary winners were announced, the Hawks walked away with first-place Champion status for Class AAA, plus high recognition with the caption awards for most Outstanding Music Performance and most Outstanding General Effect in their class.

Drawing the coveted last slot for finals performance, Hillgrove once again took the field at 10 p.m., besting their preliminary performance score and taking fourth place overall out of the ten bands remaining in this national competition. During the final retreat, each individual band member received a medal for their class champion status.

Their final performance beat their previous highest placement captured at the 2011 BOA Super Regional in Atlanta, where they took fifth place in an extremely competitive field of marching bands. Hillgrove will perform underWORLD in competition October 27th at the Georgia Dome for the 2012 BOA Super Regional event.
