The Hillgrove Music Institute (HMI) is a program of private music lessons with carefully selected instructors who are experts in their field.  The program is sponsored by the Hillgrove Band Boosters Association (HBBA).

Participation in private lessons not only builds a solid foundation in technique that improves the student’s musical ability and performance, but also enhances their enjoyment of both classroom and extracurricular band activities.  The structure and one on one support of working with a private instructor will allow the student to grow independently both as a musician and in the classroom.

Lessons are held weekly at Hillgrove High School after school hours and continue through the summer months.  Instructors have been interviewed and selected by the Hillgrove High School Band Staff and their resumes are available by request.  Instructors offer 30, 45, or 60 minute lessons.  Lessons are conducted in one of several private practice rooms located in the Band Hall.  A member of the Hillgrove High School Band Staff is always on site while lessons are in progress.  Parents may feel free to wait inside the Band Hall during their child’s lesson.

While the benefits of private lessons are many, there are expectations to be met by the student.  Students are asked to arrive 15 minutes early for their lesson in order to fully warm up and to have their instrument and materials ready.  The instructor may request the purchase of certain additional materials to assist the student in their practice at home.  A daily practice schedule will be determined by the instructor and should be maintained by the student so that adequate progress is made.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in lessons, please first contact the instructor to determine availability and lesson times.  Once you have confirmed that the instructor has accepted your child as a student in the program, please complete the online registration form and submit payment.

Thank you for your interest in the Hillgrove Music Institute program at Hillgrove High School.  Please see below for additional information regarding the program.  We look forward to seeing you!

Cost and Payment

30 Minutes - $23.00                  45 Minutes - $34.00                  60 Minutes - $45.00

Private lessons are conducted on a pre-paid basis.  HBBA does not fund the cost of lessons.  Payment is expected at least one week prior to the student’s lesson.  As lesson scheduling is arranged between the parent/student and the instructor, pre-payment should be made to cover the cost of all planned lessons.  Some parents submit payment at the time of the student’s lesson for the upcoming lesson the following week, while others find it more convenient to pay for the entire month’s scheduled lessons.

Please determine a payment schedule that works best for you, however please understand that if you fall behind in your payments, the instructor has the right to suspend future lessons until payment is made.

HBBA oversees and records your payments and will send you a monthly statement of account.  Instructors are also notified of their student’s payment status and it is the responsibility of the instructor to contact you regarding any past due amounts and the availability of future lessons.

Payment may be made by any of the following methods:

Checks made payable to HBBA may be mailed to:

HBBA

PO Box 1435

Powder Springs, GA  30127

or may be placed in the collection box in the Band Hall.

You may also make payment via PayPal using the link provided on the left side of this page.  Please note that PayPal charges a 2.9%, plus $0.30, per transaction processing fee for this service that is deducted from your payment before it is transferred to us.  Therefore, to make a $100.00 payment on your HMI account, your payment amount should be $103.20.

Regardless of the payment method you chose, please clearly note the students name, that payment is for HMI, and the number of lessons being paid, example; HMI for Jo Smith, 5 lessons in June.  This will insure that your payment is correctly applied to your account.

Please allow one week for processing and to see your payment reflected on your HMI account.

Cancellations

If you must cancel your student’s lesson, 24 hour advance notice is required except in cases of emergency.  Please note that failure to provide 24 notice will result in your being charged for the lesson.  The instructors do not teach at Hillgrove High School and must schedule their time accordingly to be there; therefore your cooperation is greatly appreciated.  Please contact the instructor directly to cancel a lesson and reschedule.  Do not contact the Band Directors or HMI Coordinator.

Likewise, the instructors are required to give you 24 hours advance notice in the event that they are unable to teach your scheduled lesson.  They will contact you directly to reschedule a time for your lesson.

Suspensions

Lessons will be temporarily suspended by the instructor should you fall behind in your payments.  The instructors are notified by the HMI Coordinator of their student’s payment status.  Once payment has been brought current, lessons will be reinstated.  Future lessons are required to be paid in advance.

Termination

Lessons may be terminated by either the parent or instructor at any time.  If the student has a credit balance on their HMI account for pre-paid lessons, the credit amount will be refunded to you.  If there is a balance due for lessons previously taken, but not paid for, the parent is required to remit payment in full at the time lessons are terminated.

Online HMI Account Access

You may access your child’s HMI account online by using the Charms link at the left on this page.  You will be forwarded to the Charms login page.  If you are a first time user, the login will be your child’s first initial and last name, example; jsmith.  If you have any trouble logging in, please contact us for assistance.

Once logged in, please choose the Finances link to access your statement.  Lesson activity and payments are recorded under the Fundraising section of the statement.  If you have any questions, we will be happy to assist you.

While in Charms, please also update your contact information found under the Personal Info link.  This will allow us to reach you as needed and for you to receive future information about the HMI program and other band activities at Hillgrove High School.
