China opens doors to Hillgrove

Posted by:

The Hillgrove bands and orchestra have been given the high honor of conducting a 12-day concert tour in the spring of 2016 in the People’s Republic of China.

Students will have the privilege to perform at venues in Beijing and Shanghai, including Beijing University, during their tour. They will also have the opportunity to spend a day at a Chinese high school.

Hillgrove is the first Georgia high school music ensemble to make this trip. The University of Georgia Redcoat Marching Band was a participant in 2006.

shanghaiPatrick Erwin, Director of Bands at Hillgrove, expressed the collective reaction to the invitation. “We’re extremely humbled and excited over the opportunity this affords our students, and wish to thank Dr. Song Yang and Dr. David Romines for the invitation and support.”

The invitation comes as an extension of the US-China Cultural & Educational Foundation (www.us-chinacef.org). Through the fine arts, cultural exchanges, and educational exchange programs, they help students, artists, and businessmen from China and the U.S. create warm friendships, lasting memories, and new opportunities.

The US-China Cultural and Educational Foundation was founded in 1996.
