Hillgrove students heading to GHP

Posted by:

Congratulations to the following students for being selected to attend Georgia’s Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) this summer:

  • Erin Henry, Music/Brass (French Horn)
  • Mary Madison Jones, Music/Percussion
  • Jared Sells, Music/Woodwinds (Saxophone)

They are among the 86 students selected from the Cobb County School District to attend this four-week intensive program. 690 finalists were selected statewide, out of more than 3,000 applicants.  Of the schools in West Cobb, Hillgrove had the highest number of instrumentalists selected to attend.

Administered by the Georgia Department of Education, GHP is a summer residential instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year.

Students will arrive on the campus of Valdosta State University on Sunday, June 23. For four weeks, students will spend the morning in their major area of nomination, exploring topics not usually found in the regular high school classroom. During the afternoons, students choose one of the other areas in which to study. Any guesses to what our nominees will pick?

Enjoy your summer, guys … but band camp will be here before you know it!
