| Congratulations Hillgrove Wind Symphony |
|
|
 |
 The Hillgrove WInd Symphony has been selected to perform at the 60th Anniversary of UGA's JanFest. Hillgrove will be the first band to perform, opening the festival. This is quite an honor and we are humbled and excited.
Many thanks to our wonderful students, current and graduated, for their work on our audition recording. Also, thanks to Mr David Testa for recording our events.
Hillgrove will be performing in UGA"s Hodgson Concert Hall at 7:15p, January 21, 2010. Please make plans to attend this wonderful event.

| Hillgrove Bands' LGPE a SUCCESS!!! |
|
|
|
 This week, all three bands at Hillgrove performed at the annual GMEA District XII Large Group Performance Evaluation at McEachern. At this event, each band prepares three selections to perform for a slate of nationally recognized music educators who serve as judges for the event.
The Concert Band performed Thursday at 2:30p. The gave an excellent performance, received very positive comments from the judges, and received a SUPERIOR rating in Sight Reading. Very proud!!!
The Symphonic Band performed later that day. The band played wonderfully and was rewarded with SUPERIOR Ratings from all judges on stage and in Sight Reading. Outstanding Job.
On Friday night, the Wind Ensemble gave a dramatic performance in front of a large audience. The band played beautifully and was also rewarded with SUPERIOR ratings from all judges and in Sight Reading.
It is a truly special time to be a member of the Hillgrove Band. Students - your directors, staff, administrators, and parents could not be more proud!!!!!

| All State/All District Band Results |
|
|
|
| On Saturday, December 13th, Hillgrove sent 75 students to Allatoona High School for the 1st Round All-State/District Band auditions. The students spent many months preparing an audition of Scales, an Etude, and Sight Reading.
Hillgrove had 24 students qualify for the Final Round of All State Auditions, to be held on January 10th in Houston County. That round of auditions will determine the All State Band placements. Congratulations to our Finalists!!!
Also, Hillgrove had 50 students earn a spot in one of the 4 District XII Honor Bands! These students will represent Hillgrove in February in performance with students from other schools in Cobb County.

| Wind Ensemble Sectional Schedules for Spring 2009 |
|
|
|
|
| Thank you for the wonderful performances on our 3rd annual Winter Concert. Your hard work and patience were well represented. Remember that auditions for Spring 2009 are next week. Be prepared with scales, be ready to sight-read and students who wish to audition for Wind Ensemble will need to have the first All-State etude prepared. We will begin our preparation for LGPE soon after!

| Students will be measured for concert uniforms on Wednesday. ALL FIRST YEAR STUDENTS will need to pay their $100 uniform fee by December 1st, 2008. This fee covers each student for 4 years of band, including alterations and cleaning.
Concert Band Camp is held each year in February. That fee will be due February 13th, and is also $100.

| HBBA General Meeting for November |
|

| We will have the next general meeting of the Hillgrove Bands Booster Association on Monday, November 17 at 7:00 PM in the Band Hall. We will be discussing our upcoming concert season as well as District and All-Sate Auditions and plans for Spring 2009. Please make plans to join us!

| On Saturday, October 11 the Hillgrove Marching Band participated in the Bands of America Orlando Regional. The band was offered the opportunity to perform in both the preliminary and final rounds, being awarded 8th place overall. We are humbled and thank the students, chaperones, crew and supporters for their work and sacrifice. We are humbled to be part of this historic achievement!
The Hillgrove Marching Band also had a spectacular 6th place finish at the Lassiter Marching Showcase on October 4th.
Keep pushing past the finish line! We have much to do and much to accomplish and enjoy!

| We will have a meeting for all parents and students for our upcoming performance in the Bands of America Orlando Regional on Monday, September 29th at 7:00 PM. We will be discussing schedule, procedures and all details in regard to this important event. It is extremely important that our families attend. We will combine this with our rescheduled HBBA General Meeting.

| We will begin our normal marching band rehearsal schedule this week. Please be reminded that ALL rehearsals are mandatory and you must be prepared, in place, and on time.
Monday: Winds - 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Percussion - 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Guard - 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Tuesday: Winds and Percussion - 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Guard - 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Wednesday: No rehearsal
Thursday: All Winds, Percussion and Guard - 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Friday: Game days (per football schedule)
